In the wake of his Ashley Madison data scandal, Josh Duggar has released a statement to both admit and apologizes for his infidelity. Although he never specifically recognizes the Ashley Madison website, his statement was posted to the official Duggar Family website. In it, he states:
“I have been the biggest hypocrite ever. While espousing faith and family values, I have been unfaithful to my wife…I have brought hurt and a reproach to my family, close friends and the fans of our show with my actions…As I am learning the hard way, we have the freedom to choose our actions, but we do not get to choose our consequences. I deeply regret all the hurt I have caused so many by being such a bad example.”
This marks the second blow to the couple’s relationship, as he previously admitted in May to molesting five young girls while he was a teenager. During the previous scandal, Anna was quick to show her support for Josh by stating:
“[I know] who Josh really is — someone who had gone down a wrong path and had humbled himself before God and those whom he had offended. Someone who had received the help needed to change the direction of his life and do what is right.”
However, she currently has remained silent on this recent turn of events. Although most news sources report she will most likely stay with her husband of nearly 7 years; there is currently speculation she is or plans on taking part of the responsibility for her husband’s actions. This is due to the belief of whether or not she should have been more attentive to her husband’s needs and to the pressures he was facing.
The stay-at-home mom of four is in a tough predicament. Not only is divorce highly frowned upon in their faith, but she could also be shunned for it. In fact, most followers of their faith will not even discuss divorce. Whatever she decides, there is no question about Anna’s commitment to her marriage or her children.
